Joanie Simon is a professional food photographer, online educator, wife, mom and potato enthusiast based in Phoenix, Arizona. She loves working with food brands and restaurants to tell their stories through creative food photography and styling. Joanie founded The Bite Shot on YouTube in 2017 in an effort to help shorten the learning curve for new food photographers and bring the food photography industry closer together.
In this episode we talk about her background in art history, counseling and love of cooking and how that prepared her for food photography, overcoming alcoholism, growing a YouTube channel that has over 67,000 subscribers, some of the secrets to taking beautiful food photos, why she believes in collaborating vs competition, how she made her first dollar in the business, how she finds clients, and even a behind the scenes look into her first course that made $18,000 in the first week with ZERO paid advertising.

Coco- “I have been looking for a badass podcast to help inspire me and keep me on track. I really feel like I found that in The Money Nerds. Last month I cut my spending drastically by switching from a new car to a new/used car, moving into a place that costs me $1000 less in rent (rent can be crazy in LA) banning myself from grub hub and focusing that money toward paying off all of my debt. Its official I have paid off the first of 7 debts! I am going the highest to lowest APR route. I so appreciate this group and the amazing discussions that are happening in here and Whitney Hansen you rock. thank you for creating a safe and inspiring space.” #moneywin
